Event Vote!
Hello Havenites!
You might be wondering why this event post is an hour early! This is because I would like to give maximum time for the vote (below), even if it is just an extra hour.
The final stage of this event comes in two parts. An IC portion and an important OOC portion. Both of these have come as a direct result of certain characters managing to take the keycard from Judy. The thread has not yet been resolved as to whether she's being questioned and released, or killed, but that ultimately doesn't change what happens next.
IC Portion
The garden has gone mad!
The vines are breaking through the ceiling of the sixth floor and into the apartment rooms in the search of more victims to assault, and patches of poppies keep cropping up through the whole apartment on the staircases. But, worse, are the earthquakes. They start off as small tremors, but within a couple of hours they have grown into something much worse. The apartment block itself is crumbling, and parts of the walls and ceilings will collapse. As the apartment currently has electricity, this can cause fires to break out where cables get snapped by the shaking.
The console in the bandstand of the garden has begun flashing even more fiercely, demanding the keycard be inserted and a choice made. An IC reaction and mingle post can be found here.
OOC Portion
This is very important, so please read the options carefully before choosing. As the consequences of the choice will change the course of the game for the next few months, the outcome will be determined by an OOC vote. Whichever answer has the majority vote will be assumed to be the one chosen ICly. This vote has two choices:
-> Open: This will leave the doorway to the garden open. It will result in the apartment block becoming unstable to live in, the deadly plants will begin to slowly take over the building, and Haven West will sometimes be subject to tremors which can collapse buildings and bury unwary characters. It will also collapse the subway tunnels, meaning that Haven North, Haven East, and The Haven will become temporarily unavailable. However, it will also unlock the second stage of housing, allowing no application cap.
-> Closed: This will close the doorway to the garden and, ultimately, destroy it. It will result in the apartment block being saved, as well as the tunnels remaining open. HOWEVER, it will result in applications being capped at the maximum number the current apartment block can hold, as the mechanism to draw new characters in is linked to the gardens.
Both of these options will have an impact on the background plot of the game, as well as other more minor setting consequences, though there is no wrong choice. Because this is an important choice, everyone will have a vote OOCly to determine the majority opinion. In order to vote, please reply to the heading in the post below marked OPEN or CLOSED. Just reply with a blank comment, and only once per player. Whichever vote has the majority by tomorrow (Sunday), 7pm EST will be considered the choice taken ICly.
The post to end the event, and explain the consequences of this choice in more detail, will go up at the slightly later time of 8pm EST to give time for the vote to end. The reason this vote is only 24 hours instead of longer, and I apologize for that, is because I had to see if the characters would ICly get Judy's card from her - if that had not been managed, the Yao Corp would have closed the garden automatically (so you avoided an automatic close)!
If you have any questions, please direct them here. Thank you!
