Event

Hello Havenites! It's event time once again.

This month residents of West will not themselves be affected by any experiments. However, things in West are going to seem very different. Between March 6th and March 11th, Haven West is going to experience a peculiar shift and suddenly rebuild itself overnight. The ruins will appear like completely new buildings, the streets will be rebuilt and paved in stone, and even that annoying billboard will mysteriously vanish. There will be stores full of supplies (though nothing that can't already be found in Haven West normally), writing of any sort will not vanish and there will be plant life all around. It'll look positively normal! If people go by the Church and Clinic and look closely, they'll see what looks like the ruins of a previous building sitting underneath it - as if the new has filled up the existence of the old. Long-term residents may remember something similar to this happening back during May 2013's event, but this time there won't be any destruction over the course of the days.

However that's not all that is reverting.

The subway station is in much better condition too and the tunnels are fully lit inside providing safe and visible passage through. North and East will both be open to go to during this time, though none of the changes in West will affect those areas. What about the monsters, you ask? They're still there, but even they are behaving strangely. The once rabid and uncontrollable creatures will be oddly docile, avoiding confrontation with the residents (unless hunted or attacked first) and even venturing out of the tunnels during the daylight and trying to take a look around. If you don't scare them off, you might even find them to be good company and maybe a one-way conversation partner. As if even they too are reverting to a previous stage, though not enough that they can speak or have their sounds be understood even by other animals.

This all sounds just lovely doesn't it? Well it keeps getting better: there are suddenly an influx of people in West! You can see them all around, going about their daily life activities. Talking into the phone with an address to the network, going into the stores and complaining about a lack of supplies, telling stories about their homes to keep their mind off the dreary situation, speculating over the next bullshit experiment Yao will put them through, arguing about traitors going over to Yao's side and more. Why, they don't sound much different from the current residents at all when you boil right down to it. If you look around you may even recognize some of these people as being from your home world. Oddly enough the monsters will be more naturally drawn to these new people than any of the current West residents. If you try to talk to them though, they won't actually respond to you or even acknowledge your existence. In fact, upon further inspection, trying to touch them will lead to your hand phasing through their body and leaving you with a cold chill.

But wait, there's more! Even your phones seem a little more fuller than before with the contact list. You're going to see a whole lot of unfamiliar faces and even a lot of familiar faces -- all of people who have either never been in West or were here once before. Why, some of the pictures might even be of people not from your world that you got to know in Haven or people you know from home. If you try to contact any of these people however, you'll only get a distorted reply from the other side that sounds exactly like them. While how they phrase it might be different, the message will ultimately be the same:

"Oh finally, I managed to reach you! Look, listen, we were all wrong about what happens when people vanish. Leave it to Yao to-- *kzzzt* --put us somewhere even worse. I don't wa-- *kzzzt* --side of there! There are so man-- *kzzzt* --the amount only keeps growing! Even dying woul-- *kzzzt* --oh dammit they found me! Please, hurry, we're in--*kzzzzt* "

A cry for help, distorted by poor signals and cut off before the person sending the distress call finishes.

These changes to Haven West will be in stable between March 6th and March 11th. A single mingle log is up for the entirety of the event. On March 12th the majority of the changes will begin to revert: buildings will slowly decay and crumble to what they once were, the monsters will retreat back to the tunnels before they revert to their animalistic aggression, the ghostly people and phone contacts will disappear as well. By March 13th, Haven West will be just as it was before the event. The supplies characters find within the stores won't fade away, since they're the same supplies that can be normally found in West.

This post can be used for OOC plotting and there will be a toplevel where all your questions can be directed. As an advance note, feel free to NPC the monsters and ghostly residents while keeping in mind what was outlined in this post. The main thing to keep in mind is both monsters and ghost people were once trapped in Haven West, just as your characters are now.

As a final note the Warned List is up for Activity Check. If you see yourself or someone you know on it, please be aware that there's only 24 hours left to submit AC to it and the Ejected List will be put up tomorrow at this time (7pm EST.)

....Here's another fun one.

What would happen if they tried to blow up/set fire to/etc a "restored" store or house?

Thank you!

My last follow up question: if someone were weird enough to do such a thing, then probably that person would ensure to remove anything useful and also to be sure none of the new people/specters were inside. Just in case. If, however, they were not so careful with the people (or decided it would be more productive to test that as well), would there be a reaction or would they seem to be hurt? As they're going about the interior as though it is as it appear to be, that is, a building in good condition.
