Surprise Poll!

Haven has been running regular test drive memes. However, the scheduling of these is sometimes hard to get right to coincide with our application processing, events, and ATP. Because of this, I thought having a test drive community always open might work a bit better. This would not be a meme community or dressing room, but just for test driving potential characters within the setting of Haven.

The main worry about having a test drive community would be that it might go ignored or forgotten by people, and thus potential people posting there could get overlooked. The way to combat that, I think, would be to hopefully have current players tracking the community for new posts, as I don't think those notifs would create too much of a flood for any one.

So, I would like playerbase opinion. Please vote below by commenting under one of the subheadings, and please keep discussion to the discussion thread to make vote counting easier. I will leave this poll open until Thursday 24th, 7pm EST and then go with whatever the majority vote is.

I vote yes. I had a really hard time getting any interaction on the meme, and maybe people would notice more on a community? I'm not sure but I can hope! Anyway, then it's not necessarily everyone posting at once. So I'm in favor!

I'm lazy, so there's that, but I for one wouldn't have the incentive to check a community without that lovely "test drive meme coming up" reminder.

There used to be a group of games that informally used one testrun comm and it worked out great, so yes!

I voted yes since tracking the comm for new posts wouldn't bother me much, but. Maybe have the posts be moderated? So that instead of people posting whenever they felt like it, maybe people could submit their posts and they would be approved by the moderator every 3 days/twice a week/etc?

Because the only thing that worries me is my inbox getting spammed with notifs if I track it. Haven is a pretty popular game and the past two test drive memes have received quite a bit of attention, in my opinion, so I would rather check the comm every 3 days (or whatever schedule) when I'll know that posts are going up instead of getting 5+ notifs quickly after each other regarding new posts in my inbox. Plus, if people know that new posts go up on let's say Mondays and Fridays, there might be less of a chance of posts being ignored/missed?

I understand that concern. However, one of the reasons for suggesting this is to cut down on the amount of mod work needed to help it run. So having to moderate posts once or twice a week would add to the work-load, rather than detract from it.

I think a lot of the success of testdrive memes stems from having a lot of others voice test at a single time. There are plenty of communities where people can voice test with their own posts while referencing the game setting or even in the game setting (dear_mun & testrun_box off the top of my head).

I know that Scorched community has a community called scorchedbox just for testing. It seems to work more or less!
