It's me, Li, player of reignbringer Thor and just_a_girl Buffy, adding Kanda from D.Gray-Man to my roster. (You might as well just forget he has a first name, unless you enjoy death threats.)

In a series made of tears and traumatized children, Kanda still somehow manages to rank as "especially" traumatized. But he is not a woobie about it. He will not be crying on your shoulder any time soon. He had his tearducts surgically removed a long, long time ago. Mostly he is going to be a complete jerk, all the time, forever.

The second one in particular was really pretty hilarious and a textbook example of the deeply deeply deeply-buried -dere to Kanda's tsun. (He's like a tsuntsuntsuntsuntsuntsuntsuntsundere.)

Kanda volunteered to fight a particularly strong opponent while the rest of the group went on ahead. Allen agreed with his strategy but said he was going to stay and help out.

Kanda told Allen to fuck off (not in so many words, we're oldtimey and "hell" and "bastard" are kind of as rough as our language gets), and when Allen didn't, Kanda told everyone that he would kill them if they didn't leave him alone.

Then he started flinging actually-very-deadly attacks in their direction until everyone stormed off in a huff, shouting that they hoped he died. :|a It was very much the DGM equivalent of firing your gun right at your friends to get them to go. He does not fire warning shots into the air, nope.

Lenalee was the only one who stayed behind because she has a very long history of wrangling Kanda. She made him promise to come back alive, but not before he pretended not to hear her talking to him for several panels. c:

but see deep deep deep deep deep deep deep a thousand more deeps down, he WAS being self-sacrificing and saving the group. It's just that he manages to do it in a way that makes you hate him.

Even to the people he cares about and respects, Kanda is still an asshole 99% of the time.
