i'm off hiatus! which coincidentally means ken kaneki is back from his abrupt disappearance, with a shiny new journal thanks to a pretty significant canon update. here's what it all means:
firstly, he looks a lot different. he hasn't grown any taller, but his hair is now white and his nails are black. while initially it looks like polish, the fact that it'll never grow out suggests blunt trauma, to both his fingers and toes.
he's also gone through a significant change in personality. he's still going to be courteous and polite, but he is no longer afraid to be brutal and ruthless, and to those he believes are "bad eggs"... let's just say there won't be any tears shed from him if someone were to wipe them out.
he's gone a little power hungry and believes that if he uses his strength, he can save everyone. this ties in with the fact that he's now monstrously powerful. he is now in full control of his kagune; the tentacles on his back, his kakugan; the way his eye turns black when things get too real, and he is also a half-kakuja; which is bad, because it's essentially his brain melting in on itself to drive him insane. and insanity is pretty much the opposite thing you want from someone who is monstrously powerful?
lastly, this also means his old journal has been removed from all communities.
