Character name: Beatrice
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Japanese, and English at a beginners level!
What specializations does your character possess?: Beatrice is an expert on western magic, riddles, and writing in code (a simple example would be something like noticing that the first letter of every line in a poem forms a name if you read it from the top down, a more difficult example would be reading into a kanji's standalone meaning in a paragraph of gibberish and finding a way to read said gibberish using the clues from that kanji). Beatrice is very quick to catch onto things, and if she doesn't know something she will look it up and try again, seeing as she even remembered the Taiwanese way of writing and pronouncing a word and contrasting it with the Mandarin and Japanese way, despite not knowing Taiwanese or Mandarin. And remembering the Chinese characters used for that word.

Character name: Hyobu Kyosuke
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Fluent in Japanese, English and Chinese if not a bit rusty in reading the latter. Could passably read most other common languages on Earth as well.
What specializations does your character possess?: He has psychometry at his disposal, which can help him pick up the thoughts and emotions of the last person who read or even wrote said book, depending how long he focuses on a single one.
He doesn't like to use it on books with a story since it spoils the ending. As for normal reading, he'd understand scientific and medical texts far more than mechanical, yet out of the three medical is probably his best area.no subject
Character name: Hayley White
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: English, Latin
What specializations does your character possess?: Basic textbooks and research material on almost anything are fair game provided there isn't too much specific jargon to muddle through. She's good at getting meaning from context and looking up anything she isn't familiar with, but that isn't always possible in every case. Her main areas of expertise however are general history as well as the supernatural, especially concerning death gods, contracts with supernatural beings, and instances of alleged immortality, agelessness, and regeneration. These are things that she's constantly on the lookout for so if she spots a keyword it is very likely she'll stop to comb through the passage. She's overall kind of an obsessive researcher so it's not out of the realm of possibility for her to stumble onto anything outside this scope, but whether she'll notice its relevance due to her limited time in Haven is another matter.

Character name: Alphonse Elric
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Amestrian (so I guess English?), probably small phrases in Chinese after spending nearly a year researching in Haven North to do that.
What specializations does your character possess?: Anything chemical, anything written in code, alchemical stuff, science in general really. He's a fast learner so things that get into jargon and involved are a good place for him to be, but modern technology (after about 1900) is totally a no go.

Character name: Gilbert Nightray
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Pandora... Heartsian..... PH takes place in an alternate universe with no language related to the earth as far as we know (except possibly french because this series makes no sense). 8 months with the library in the North likely equates to an understanding of beginners English too.
What specializations does your character possess?: Most of his specialties are very specific to his canon IE things related to the Abyss/Chains etc. He knows some things about generic ~magic~ stuff like seals meant to repress powers/abilities/energy + expertise with Victorian-era firearms and somewhat basic medical knowledge.

Character name: Sharon Rainsworth
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Like Aki said, Pandora Hearts is ~*complicated*~, though probably their version of French (and possibly English, considering noble families probably had to study up on one or two languages).
What specializations does your character possess?: Again, the Aki answer! Sharon's know-how tends to center around Chains and contracts and whatnot, but as she does work with Pandora, she's used to paperwork and reports
and romance novels but shh. I imagine she at least knows how to read some medical texts, with how sickly her mother was. Nothing too technical, and she's not exactly modern, but there you have it.no subject
Character name: Kon-El
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: English
What specializations does your character possess?: Kon's familiar with genetics and cloning from having spent a lot of time working for (or being worked on by) CADMUS but he doesn't have more than a highschool education in anything. He could probably manage to understand medical texts because of his experience as a field medic at one point in canon, and his own experiences with hypertime and alternate universes, mean that he has an interest in figuring out how the mechanics behind Haven work. Apart from that ... Kon is the most useless superhero, seriously, and is probably not going to apply himself to anything that looks like work unless he has a special interest in the subject.

Character name: Minato Arisato
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Japanese, semi-fluent in English
What specializations does your character possess?: Given the nature of his canon Minato probably has a huge amount of knowledge in mythology, particularly Greek and Japanese myths. No other real specializations apply but he's also good at sifting through details and putting them together, as evidenced during an investigation case on a 'ghost' in his school.

Character name: Hubert Oswell
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Ephinean/English (the written text can be read in English, differences appear to be mostly stylistic)
What specializations does your character possess?: Save for his canon specific knowledge of how the world works and monsters -- he's pretty well read all around. Military strategy and combat is his strongest suit. Aside from comic books (but those don't count). But he has a working knowledge and basic understanding of sciences, Ephinean history and literature, as well.

Character name: Pascal
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Ephinean/technically stylized English, ancient Amarcian
What specializations does your character possess?: Science and technology is the name of Pascal's game. She is an Amarcian, a race of people who are well-known for their proficiency in the sciences, and she is far from an exception. Her specialty lies in the study of the planet's life force, eleth, with a very generous helping of computers and mechanics on the side: she is able to invent gadgets of varying sizes in an immediate timeframe, and is shown to be able to decode ancient technology from her ancestors — and even alien technology — with ease.

Character name: Touko Aozaki
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Japanese, English, she's also traveled all around Europe and uses Rune magic, so highly likely German and possibly other European languages.
What specializations does your character possess?: Medical textbooks definitely. Touko is a magus, but has done very, very extensive research on the human body in particular, since that was the vessel she tried using to reach Akasha, the Root of all things. She was awarded top honors at the Mages' Association/Academy and was capable of replicating her entire body artificially down to the last nerve to the point that it's impossible to differentiate between the original and the doll of a clone, so she knows pretty much the ins and outs of a human body and practically everything relating to it. She's done her share of experimenting too, notably with fellow magi's magic circuits (someone's potential at performing thaumaturgy, something determined at and unchangeable from birth).
That set aside, she has solid knowledge in architecture too (so blueprint for buildings at least), having helped design a very intricate apartment complex before where just living there could affect the tenants' psyche. Not as much in terms of machinery or overly scientific, since science and sorcery go in opposite ends even if they aim for a similar ultimate goal. She's also well versed in mythical lore from Europe (fairies, werewolves, etc etc), has an astute sense of observation, and sharp sense of attention to detail. It's things like these that also make her an excellent craftswoman no matter what she chooses to make.

Character name: Garrus Vakarian
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: In the mass effect universe, the omni-tool (a device most people have on their wrists that they use for basically anything inclunding long-range communications, going to internet, watching porn, etc etc) has a built-in translator that makes Citadel races' languages understandable to everyone. Now I have no idea if it works with text too (we do see english words around the worlds with the eyes of Shepard) so I'm not entirely sure if the omni-tool is able to translate them. Also I'm not even sure if it's allowed at all in the game, so your choice, mods!!
What specializations does your character possess?: Garrus knows a lot about science known in his galaxy so he would definitely understand books about it. He's also known to be skilled in engineering, but all he's been shown doing on that regard is things related to spaceships. Aside from these two, he has knowledge on guns, but most likely only the ones from his time.

Character name: Minako Arisato
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Japanese (fluent), English (limited degree).
What specializations does your character possess?: Minako knows a fair amount of mythology, and has decent deductive skills, but doesn't excel in any particular field. She can piece together clues from different sources, and look at the overall picture they present.
She can also be extremely stubborn and single-minded, and given the hints Stefan dropped in their conversation, will be looking for one thing in particular.

Character name: Spain
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: Spanish (fluent), Portuguese (fluent), French (fluent), English (fluent), German (rusty, but fluent), Latin (rusty), Arabic (very limited), Greek (very limited). He's also fluent in all of the regional languages in Spain (Catalan, Basque, Galician, etc).
What specializations does your character possess?: History, politics, economics, military, religion, culture, etc... He's been around people for centuries and he's picked up a quite a bit. He's not very deductive though.

Character name: Edward Elric
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: English, presumably
What specializations does your character possess?: Sciences/maths/history/medical books -- aka most of the non-fiction would be up his alley, but anything technological would be out of that category!

Player name: Nikki
Character name: Dr. Newt Geiszler
Character journal:
What languages can your character read?: German and English, both fluent
What specializations does your character possess?: Biology (DNA stuff included,) chemistry, mathmatics, basically 90% of the sciences. He also has a good handle on anything having to do with electronics.
