An Important Poll

Hello Havenites!

We, as a game, have been growing at a substantial rate for quite some time now. And, while this is wonderful and I'm really happy to see so many people enjoying the game, it has been brought to my attention that this also has seen a massive increase in the speed of things, and between two intro logs per month and an event, people are beginning to fall behind or burn out.

As a consequence, we are suggesting to move applications to a monthly cycle. It will most likely therefore fall that there will be an app cycle on the second week of a month, and an event on the fourth week of a month to pace things out - this is not a hard and fast schedule, just an example, the exact timings will be hammered out if this is implemented.

As this would still leave one intro log and an event per month, as well as lots of player posts and logs, the AC will remain the same. But this is where you come in, as all major changes are run by you first. Please vote in the following poll once only, before Wednesday 12th, 7pm EST. The majority vote will be honoured - however, if the votes are very close, or tied, the mod team will discuss which option we feel will better serve the game.

Hiya mods! Thank you so much for this and for polling the player base on it!

Would you ever consider a cap to the amount of apps accepted in a round or some other limit to slow the growth some?

+1 to this, I just mentioned it in someone's plurk even. *g* Though I would suggest probably do a test run of a monthly cycle to see how much app traffic there is on the new schedule before doing something so drastic as to put a cap on them. STILL. It's worked before in other games and might be something to consider here if the number of apps continues to be really huge!

+1 too!

another thing that might help could be to consider reducing the number of apps a given person can submit in a cycle to one, or possibly consider lowering the character limit? IDK, only if people think it might help of course.

Makes sense to me! I'm still really pleased that monthly app cycles are on the table at all, and I hope those help things settle before we have to consider an app cap. Thank you!

+1!

Like Froda says, we should wait and see what the monthly cycle brings, but if the end result of a once a month app round is just double the amount / aka the same overall, well...

I'm a little unsure (AND LATE) about the suggested timing... because if the event is literally in the very last days of the month, it means that the bulk of every event will take place in the weird limbo period of "The post takes place in February but it's counting for March AC" which is a concept that's new to some players, including myself. I was in the game for months before I realized that threads started in February could also be counted, and even then only because I saw a player else explaining it to a third party who had asked on Plurk.

In a perfect world I'd suggest not having it at the end of the month, but I understand why you would choose that timing (it allows you to spend the first week on the AC, the second week on apps, and then get a breather before the event) and why it would be awkward in another configuration.

I might suggest instead making the wording a little clearer for the AC requirements? Instead of "Posts, logs and threads can be taken any time from February 1st - February 28th" maybe: "All posts made in February and comments with a timestamp of February 1st - February 28th can be counted toward the AC."

tldr this is a really good idea though
